Is Your Website Actually Working for Your Business?
Alright, so you have a website, whether you created it yourself or hired a professional to design it for you. Now what? Sharing your website link on social media from time to time? Hoping that people will look at it after you share your business card? Or worse yet, are you afraid to promote your website because you’re not confident in how it looks or works?
I’m here to help you change that. I’ll help you understand if your website is actually working for your business, and if not, what effective changes to make a real difference.
First: Hi there! I’m Teresa, Founder and Creative Director of Form & Flourish Design Co., a results-driven brand and web design studio for small businesses passionate about their craft. I’ve been building websites for over 14 years with quite a bit of education in SEO, accessibility, content writing, and a thorough understanding of the front- and back-end details of website design.
My values are rooted in intention, a sense of adventure and curiosity in all things, and helping my clients grow and flourish. I believe that my clients deserve quality in their investment as a catalyst for business growth, and to thrive and flourish with a brand and website that is built with strategy and care.
When I conduct performance assessments of websites, I look at four areas to determine whether a website will actually work for a client. I take into account the main goals and objectives my clients are after, as well as the bigger-picture pieces that make a website effective and successful.
I’ve created this Website Self-Analysis to walk you through each of these areas, with specific examples on what to look for.

Review Your Actual Website Data
Looking at your website data is a great place to start. And, if you don’t have Google Analytics and Google Search Console set up, do that now! Having at least a little bit of data will help you understand your traffic, trends, top pages and queries, click-through rates, and conversion rates.
Monitor how you are showing up in search results, and use your website data to better optimize your site for your marketing efforts.
Look at Your Overall Website Design
The overall design of your website should be consistent with your branding, and, as the center of your marketing efforts, you want to be sure not to confuse potential clients or customers with inconsistencies across your digital platforms.
It only takes a fraction of a second to leave a first impression–so having a strong, consistent design is more important than ever.
Review the Content Throughout Your Website
Your website should communicate what you do and who it’s for before anything else. Your data will help you understand whether your traffic is relevant, and your conversion rates will help you understand whether your content is giving people enough information to want to purchase from you.
Being clear on why your product or service matters will help your clients or customers understand why you are their best option.
Review your Website’s Overall User Experience
The experience users have on your website should be easy, straightforward, and clearly answer the questions they might have so they can take action. The technical components of your website (such as page load speed) play an important role in the overall experience as well.
A slow or outdated website with broken links is a sure way to turn away potential business.
